In March, Jon Solomon welcomed Chris Forsyth & The Solar Motel Band to 103.3 fm WPRB for a sensational live session. Now just two months later, acclaimed SMB guitarist Nick Millevoi returns to the station for a second performance, this time as half of Nick Millevoi’s Desertion Duo.

This guitar/double bass collaboration will debut on Wednesday, May 18th at 8:00 pm ET, as Millevoi is accompanied by bandmate Johnny DeBlase.

Then on Friday, Millevoi’s terrific new record “Desertion” is released on ShhPuma. Here’s the album opener “Desertion And The Arsonist’s Match”

Millevoi’s CV is an impressive, broad-reaching one and you don’t want to miss this recording.

To quote from his biography:

Nick Millevoi is a Philadelphia-based guitarist and composer whose music draws upon the influences of avant garde jazz, modern classical, and rock and roll to create a personal sound. A restless sonic explorer, Nick’s maximizes the possibilities of the electric guitar through frequent use of feedback, raw noise, and non-traditional tunings. As an intrepid composer, Millevoi confronts everything from maximal electric power trio music to chamber music to large scale improvisation-heavy ensemble pieces, and everything in between.

Nick currently leads his Desertion Quartet, featuring Jamie Saft, Ches Smith, and Johnny DeBlase, whose debut recording will be released May 2016 on ShhPuma/Clean Feed Records. He also co-leads the Hollenberg-Millevoi Quartet, formed under the supervision of composer John Zorn to perform Zorn’s Bagatelles. Nick is one half of Archer Spade, a duo with trombonist Dan Blacksberg, who co-lead a 25-member ensemble, host a festival, and have worked with composers such as Mick Barr, Dave Soldier, Roscoe Mitchell, Gene Coleman, and many others. Nick currently plays guitar in Chris Forsyth & the Solar Motel Band (No Quarter Records). As a member of Many Arms, he released five albums, including two for John Zorn’s Tzadik label and a collaboration with Toshimaru Nakamura, which Pitchfork described as, “Music that seeks the sun by exploding toward it.”

As a performer in many different projects, Nick regularly tours throughout the US and Europe, recently performing at festivals, such as Incubate (Netherlands), Gaffer Fest (France), Suoni Per Il Popolo (Canada), the Montreal Jewish Music Festival, the New Atlantis Festival (DC), and John Zorn’s Masada Book Three Premiere concert at New York’s Town Hall. Nick’s music has been released by labels such as Tzadik, New Atlantis, Gaffer, The Flenser, Sick Room, and Public Eyesore. Millevoi’s music has been reviewed by Pitchfork, SPIN, NPR Music, The Onion AV Club, Wire magazine, and many others.

“When Nick Millevoi plays the guitar, it’s like a rocket darting skyward between clouds. [Millevoi] hits the sweet spot between Neil Young’s exploratory Crazy Horse jams and a spaghetti western soundtrack.”NPR

“The immersive soundtrack to an imaginary spaghetti western, Desertion is well worth getting lost in.” – Aquarium Drunkard
