Jon Solomon’s 25-Hour Christmas Marathon Recap

My 36th-annual 25-Hour Holiday Radio Show was an enormous success, broadcast from my dining room table across the WPRB airwaves and around the world for a fifth consecutive Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.

What were the highlights, Jon? Glad you asked!

Over 40 pieces recorded for the marathon premiered throughout the 2024 broadcast, which began with well over eight straight hours of material I had never aired previously.

My daughter hosted her second-annual Reindeer Rumble inside the marathon early Christmas morning.

Advance Base recorded a special full set of his holiday songs over the summer at the WPRB studios that debuted late on the 24th to much delight. This was a hard secret to keep!

Speaking of secrets, my sister surprised me by revealing that she had a bunch of giant cardboard versions of my head made, which she covertly sent to a number of friends, relatives, fellow DJs and listeners. You can see a few of their photos below.

In addition to returning favorite thematic sets built around The Fall, Ramones, The Misfits, Beastie Boys and Joy Division / New Order, for the first time ever I aired a new set of all holiday tunes inspired by Neil Young, which was a big hit going off listener reactions.

Edith Frost, who will have a new album out on Drag City later this winter, returned with “Gift of the Flu,” her 12th song for the marathon in as many years…
